Fly Fishing Film Tour Coming to Sun Valley

I was really surprised this morning when I read that the Fly Fishing Film Tour is coming to the Sun Valley Opera House on February 23.  They came through three years ago and I had free tickets for me and my friends--it turned out that we were the only people there.  I thought they'd never be back, but I guess a local film helped bring them here.

"Doc Of The Drakes" trailer - by Bryan Huskey | Fly Fishing Movie from The Fly Fishing Film Tour on Vimeo.

I saw Doc of the Drakes at our local fly-fishing film festival last summer.  It's a great film about an elderly gentleman fishing Brown Drakes on Silver Creek (my most favorite thing in the world).  I also posted another film from Brown Drakes last year here.

I look forward to seeing all of the films, but by then, I'll only be thinking about swinging flies on the Salmon.

Devil's River Trip

Over the holidays I happened to notice what was on the screen of my parents' alway on tv--fly-fishing. I come from a hunting family so any time fly-fishing sneaks on the tube, I pay attention.

I was shocked to see one of my dream trips was on--along with the first guides I ever had! ConwayBowman's Fly-fishing the World (on the Sportsman Channel) was floating the Devil's River with Marcus and Johnny, The Guides of Texas, and though not neccesarily on purpose, comedy duo. I didn't get to see much, but you should check out the show--it's a remote river on the Mexican border with tons of fish.

Maybe I'll get to go there some day...

Happy Birthday to Me!

2012 has already been beyond busy. We have almost no snow and have had really warm temperatures, including some record highs. Starting next week I'll start to have some time to fish and ski so that means it will probably turn insanely cold.

I finally went classic skiing for the first time this season last week. I even took some advice from Paddy, who actually knows what he's doing.

Yesterday was my birthday--I'm still on the bright side of thirty, but barely. Paddy and I celebrated with a nice, relaxing day.

I made myself a chocolate meringue pie--one of my favs.

Paddy insisted on putting 29 candles on the pie--I'm surprised the fire alarm didn't go off.

I'm hoping 2012 brings more fun my way. I plan on fishing and guiding more, trying to bike and climb more, and spend more time expanding The Brown Drake.
