February Fishing

I've been really sick for the past week and a half, but my cabin fever was bad enough that I managed to make myself well enough to hit the river today. We've had a cold week, but this afternoon was warm so I figured the fishing would be good. I was wrong. I had to post-hole, which is normal, but I also had to cast while trying to stand on an ice slab that covered half the river. Even though the fishing was crappy, it was really fabulous to be on the river and to be well.

We're expecting warmer temps through the weekend so I hope to dominate some fish on the Lost next week.

Good luck to the Olympians from Ketchum!

Should Have Been Here

Here's a little clip I found this morning on This Is Fly. I was supposed to be on this trip, but my sister got married instead. Looks like I missed out on some good fishing. Maybe next time.

Favorite T-Shirt Ever

I just saw this on Moldy Chum and couldn't resist posting. This is definitely the most common phrase coming out of my mouth on the river. You can buy one here.

BTW, like 30 inches of powder this week. Thanks god it's finally snowing.

Shreddin' the Pow Pow

I headed out in the backcountry on Thursday and the skiing was great. Super sketchy avy conditions, but I'm a pretty mediocre skier so I stuck to the low-angled powder. Thursdays are now backcountry day, in preparation for a yurt trip in March in the Sawtooths.

First Fish

Monday was my first day of 2010 on the river and it was so nice to be in the water. It was really warm considering it's January, but there still weren't many midges. The fish were eating, but it wasn't a bonanza by any standards. We're having a bad winter up here so pray for snow...for the skiing, and the fish!

Down Mexico Way...

...the Lobo snake says, "We ain't got no trout down here."

It's good to back in trout country.
